As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.
—UPDATE— February 23, 2021
We are now seeing a great phenomenon happening among the Apurina people. I do not know why I say that, because if I truly believe what is written in the Bible I should expect it to happen everywhere we obey Jesus’ commands. “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.” John 14:12
What is that Phenomenon? The leaders whom we have trained are now going into new areas on their own, having been asked to come, because they are known as Bible teachers along the river.
As I think about the greatest things to write about, I keep thinking of Estiani and Jovanete. They live in the first village, Vila Nova. They each trusted in the Word of God about a year ago. Estiani is about 18 and Jovanete is about 14. They are cousins. Estiani was the “popular” girl and was at all the parties, and her younger cousin was following her around. Then she delivered her life to God and met Jesus as her Lord and Savior.
We saw an immediate change in her. This change spilled over to Jovanete.
When we arrived on this last trip, most of the youth of the village were gone, either to the city or down river several hours to a big party/festival. Estiani did not go, and Jovanete stayed with her. This has been the scene over the last year, since they came to Christ. They both started coming to our School of Ministry classes and are growing.
On this last trip, I was able to sit with them and talk about staying strong and becoming the women of God as the women of old before them. Please continue to pray for them too.
Down lake a little bit in Aldeia Nova, we have Nelson. He is about 15. He is always there to greet me as I arrive now, with a huge smile, eager to help me with whatever I need. He is at all of the services. I am expecting great things as God is working His wonderful things in Nelson’s heart. Pray for him too.
As I stated in the “February Update”, Guerlermi started a youth service in Vila Nova. He has an average of 8 youth coming. We have many more in the village who are not, and, in my opinion, are ripe for the Lord’s harvest. Melissa and I are very excited about what we see happening in Guerlermi and among the youth. Guerlermi is also one of the group which goes out to the other villages to preach and bring the Gospel. We believe God is raising him up to call many of the youth from the other villages to the Saving knowledge of Jesus Christ Crucified.
One of the biggest news items from Vila Nova is that Armando testified before the congregation that he woke up in the middle of the night sensing God calling him to action in the church. He said he responded by saying he would help in whatever form he could with his brother Valdeci’s calling, as a deacon and as a companion in Valdeci’s evangelistic trips to the other villages.
Thank you for your prayers. Please let us know if you are praying for the people and we will share with them so that they can in return pray for you.
God bless you,
This ministry is on the verge of a large expansion and as such, is in need of committed people to help with the new Church projects. As the ministry expands there is need to build churches in new villages. Each church costs about $2000 u.s.d. to build and furnish. If you are interested in becoming part of this, please write us an email and let us know you want to help with a church, and click on this link: Church Project to give a tax free donation of any amount.
Make sure to check out our Latest Update.
God bless you all in Christ Jesus!
May The Lord make His face to shine upon you,
Brad and Melissa Miller and Family
–OVERVIEW OF THIS MINISTRY–
We are working closely with the leadership to bring them into a deeper walk with the Lord through Personal Bible Devotions, Leadership Unity, and by teaching how to Pastor the flock of God.
We have three goals:
1) Leadership Training
2) Teach the Bible
3) Evangelism of the other Villages
We always pass by all the houses and families of the village, sharing our lives as they share their’s with us, encouraging, consoling, and continuing to build relationships.
Please pray for the Apurina people! There is an ongoing spiritual battle in their village right now.
Thank you for your prayers and support.
There is always a real danger of Malaria, Yellow Fever, snake bites, and other things.
—Background on this Ministry—
We minister to and with the Apurina people. We are following the work of two Wycliff missionaries, Judy and Cathy. They were ministering to the Apurina for 37 years.
This tribe is about 2 days travel by boat from Manaus.
Our goals are to continue to augment the lives of the believers in the Tribe while seeking the opportunity for the furtherance of the Gospel to those unreached in the neighboring villages, which are currently opening up through our evangelical boat trips. We are doing this by systematically teaching Through the Bible, teaching Old Testament history coupled with New Testament revelation and applying both to the lives of the people.
We are so grateful for the work of Judy and Cathy, who learned the heart language of the people, made an alphabet, and created teaching material for future missionaries, such as us!
Currently the Tribe does not have the whole Bible translated in their language. They have the total New Testament, the books of Genesis and Exodus, and part of the book of Psalms. As our relationship grows, and we learn the Apurina language, we will continue the translation of the Old Testament scriptures that Judy and Cathy started. In the meantime, we teach in Portuguese from the Apurina scriptures and have one of the leaders translate that into Apurina.
Please pray about joining us in this large work, which is the main focus of our ministry here in the Amazon Jungle.
Please pray for these people as the spiritual warfare is intense, unlike anything we have experienced in the U.S. The leaders who would like to have prayer are Makoaa, Domiguinho, Doval, Patricio, Pedro, Oscar, Analucia, Valdicis, Raimunda and Chico.
