Brazil Update September 2016

Isaiah 8:18  Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders

Greetings in Christ! September 2016,

The last two months have been exciting as we have re-accustomed ourselves to the Amazonian way of life.  I think the Beatles had a song that said “Nobody ever told me there’d be days like these”!

Let us remember that “A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.”  Pro 16:9

We formulated our plans for the coming years and shared them with you while we were in the U.S.  And now we are seeing some of those plans come to pass and others that needed modified.  It brings us back to one of our primary prayers, please petition the Lord for discernment and wisdom on our behalf.

Pro 16:3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

We have been involved in three ministries: Our Primary Objective – the Indians and their growth in Christ, Secondary – Jardim Tropical, and Thirdly – ITV or Institute for Transforming Lives in Colônia Antônio Aleixo.

Because of the growth we see in the Indians and the opportunities at Jardim Tropical, and because Andrea (our eldest daughter) has returned to the U.S. for school, we have decided to streamline and re-focus our efforts, pulling back a little from the work at ITV.

Ephephians 5:14-17 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.  Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

The Indians:  Josiah and I went to the village August 9-26.  We held 9 Bible comprehension classes for the leadership training sessions, 9 evening services where we used our notes from the comprehension classes, 2 Evening Prayer meetings, and 3 Sunday services.  Our typical day went as follows: 8-11am Comprehension class, 11-3pm fishing, lunch, rest/study times, 3-6pm house to house visits, 6-8:30pm evening services.  We had a total of 23 meetings in 14 days.

The Indians also had a festival on the second Saturday, during the full moon.  Josiah and I danced with them in the evening and at sunup, they danced all night.  It is a real pleasure to partake with them in their customs and culture as we learn how to minister ever more effectively in what seems to us the ends of the earth, but to them, their back yard.

Jardim Tropical:  We continue to help in weekly children’s outreaches every Friday afternoon.  But our ministry there is mainly focused upon getting the solid foundation of the word of God planted in the hearts of the adults.  Artur and Marinete, who live there, have started evening services from a makeshift pulpit platform 4 nights a week.  We are working with them more closely now, doing what we can to equip and encourage them as they more effectively reach the people of their own community.

We have started meeting with them on a weekly basis outside of the community to build a stronger relationship with them.  They have started attending our weekly cel group from church which meets in our house.  Artur is very grounded and knows the word of God better than I.  It is humbling to be used in such a capacity.  We hope to equip them, and those whom he is mentoring in the ways of expositional teaching so they can better deliver the word of God to the people.

ITV:  Melissa has continued to go on Saturdays with the group from our church to Colônia Antônio Aleixo. She is helping in the Bible classes for the younger children.  I have stayed home to watch and care for our children.

The Boat Ministry:  We have started the process to buy a boat for ministry.  We will have pictures in the near future.  We have paid for the fabrication of a 7 x 1.6 meter boat with a reclining top.  Buying things here is different than in the U.S. as we cannot just go down to the boat dealer and buy from their selections, but instead must have everything custom built.  We still need to buy a motor and all of the accessories, but the boat is getting built!  This boat will be stored in Manacapuru (the city where we em-barque to the Village from) and be transported to and from the Indian village for ministry.  It will be used in the interior to visit other villages, evangelizing and duplicating the work which the Lord has given us to do.

Please pray for us and these ministries.  Pray for the people we are ministering to.  Pray for their hearts, eyes, and ears to be open to everything the Lord has, in all of His richness and wisdom, to grow in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Act 20:24  But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
Act 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

Do you feel called to the jungle?  Come and see if the Lord is calling you to help in this ministry.
Do you want to help more?  There are more people waiting to hear the Gospel, people literally asking for us to come to them.
Would you consider a monthly donation of any amount to help further the Kingdom of God in the Amazon Basin?
Would you like to give a one time gift?  God has called us to invest in His Kingdom.  Matthew 25:14-46
Has God spoken to you about doing more?

God bless you all,
Thank you for your prayers,
Brad and Melissa, Andrea, Josiah, Veronica and Benjamin
