Personal thoughts on John 3:3 and 5.
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God….. Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Nicodemus was in the process of being born again. He was seeking the Lord with all his strength, which at this time would only allow him to seek out Jesus at night, in the dark. And yet he was seeing a glimpse of the light, he was seeing a glimpse of the kingdom of God. He knew there was something yet being concealed from him, being the teacher of biblical teachers. For a baby to be born, he must come out of his place of comfort, from a place concealing the whole light. The natural process of birth is pushing Nicodemus that direction, and still he needed more help and Jesus was there to nudge him along. You must be born again to see clearly the truth, you must be born again to enter into the real kingdom. Although we are comfortable in the dark of the world, we were never meant to stay there! Jesus came to free us from our prisons, and here in the case of Nicodemus, and of us, this freedom comes in the form of a Spiritual revelation of who Jesus really is!
