Where is He when you call? July 21, 2012

Have you ever wondered where God is when you cry out for help?  You are in the mists of trouble, a friend you trust tells you to pray because “God hears and answers prayers.”  You do, and ……where is He?  You cannot see Him, you do not hear Him, you do not perceive He is anywhere around.  But at the same time, you see Him working in other people’s lives.  You hear their testimonies of the times they cried out…..and He answered them. But where is He in the time of your trouble?

Well, you are not alone.  This is part of the mystery of God, and it is one of the oldest questions people have ever asked about Him, “Where are you when I need you?”  Consider what Job had to say about this, as he was in the middle of a very hard trial.

“Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hides himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him: But he knows the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. (Job 23:8-10)

Job said, “He hides himself…”  Many times, God hides himself from us.  We know he is there, but we cannot see him when we look.  This is where faith begins.  Job had his cup of faith full and overflowing.  Job would not give up on God’s goodness to him just because he couldn’t see him or because he did not understand the trial.  Job trusted God no matter what the circumstances.  Job had even said, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him.” (Job 13:15)

God is there, and He does hear you.  You do not need to worry over these things.  He does hear your cries, He does hear your voice.  At times, though, God hides himself from us, so that we can grow in faith.  He has been there before, and He is there now!  Remember, He promised you, “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” (John 14:18)  He has proven Himself faithful in the past!  Let us look this day to Him.  Let us this day, trust in Him for the outcome.  Let us allow Him to open our eyes of faith to His marvelous and mysterious ways!
